THE WONDERFULL CITY OF SOLO/SURAKARTA



Solo or Surakarta is a small town which has many histories and interesting places.

Located in Central Java-Indonesia is arround 1 hour trip from Jogjakarta by car and 1 hour trip from Jakarta by plane. Solo has unique style of life, people say Solo is never sleeps. In the morning about 5.00 am starting the activities, people going to work and school, the economic's life is very dinamic as happening always in the markets. And the life is continue in the night with the social life as disco club or traditional live shows.

The traditional's markets which open everyday from 3 am-18 pm make special sense of town also Pasar Klewer a traditional market of batik which became trademark of Solo. Never missed to visit it if you go to Solo, many traditional batiks with many details make you proud to wearing it and you will admire it.



The known mark of Solo is there are many people who selling traditional snack and traditional drinks and only the night you can find them, the kiosk called 'hek' and sure only in Solo you will find it. They carrying the products with the simple cart and they open it in the trotoar, the customers sitting down in the ground and enjoy their food. A charasteristic of 'hek' are 'wedang jahe' and 'sego kucing'.

'Wedang jahe' is drink item from ginger with many spices that make you feel warm and relax, and 'sego kucing' is small quantity of rice and small peace of fish packed in the banana leaf.



To walk along the main street in the centre of town is a good idea, or you can hire 'becak' a traditional transportation with 3 wheels. There are also many good stores and mall's that make you comfortable to make a shopping with reasonable prices.

The restaurants you will find them very easy, there are many and nice with good prices, also you can find hotel with economic price, you will not imagine there are cheap hotels with Rp.50.000 (5 US$) per night but litle bit uncomfortable but its ok for 1 night. And if you want to stay in the good hotel, there many 5 stars hotels.



Let's go to other places, there are 2 palaces called Kasunanan and Mangkunegaran and still exist until now, you can go inside to see some icon's of thousand years ago. Kasunanan has white sand in the yard that make it different. 

About 1 hour trip by car from Solo, you can go to Lawu mountain, has wonderfull water fall and natural lake near in the top of the mountain, good place for relax and make a barbeque with friends.

3 days staying in Solo is enough to explore the city and arround, of course the cost of living is very cheap so you can enjoy your trip with small money.



So, don't forget and put in your list if you are travel to Indonesia to visit the wonderfull small city - Solo- the warm people of Solo are waiting for you and get your unforgetable experience.
